Ethics Committee was established by the Board of
Management of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital with the following objectives:
To facilitate high quality research in the hospital.
To protect subjects of research from possible harm
and preserve their rights.
Members: The committee shall consist of
8 members from hospital medical staff.
Two lay persons (to be appointed by Board of
Management after consultation with board of Trustees. These shall be
neither employees or advisors of trust society.
At least one lay person shall have legal background.
At least one of the members shall be a lady to
protect interest of female subjects.
Functions: Proposals for research project
Investigators working to undertake a specific
research project involving human subjects shall fill the application
form.
All Research project shall be submitted to the
research committee for approval. Prof. N.C. Nayak, the chairman of
Research Committee shall screen all the projects and refer those with
ethical issues involved to the Ethics Committee. No project shall
proceed without prior approval of the Research / Ethics committee.
The committee shall be guided by the code of ethics
of the Word Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki - 2002
revised guidelines)/ ICMR and other such guidelines that may be
published from time to time.
All research projects shall only proceed after taking
a detailed written informed consent from the subjects. The consultant
incharge of a patient is responsible for ensuring that an adequate
explanation is given of the nature and purpose of any procedure
involved.
An investigator working to investigate on a patient
in the hospital not under his own clinical care must seek the permission
of the consultant incharge of that patient.
The investigator shall submit a report in a format
similar to that, which is used for publication of a paper. They should
also submit an interim report of progress of work every six months,
which shall be evaluated and monitored by the research committee.
