High Risk Pregnancy

The High Risk Pregnancy Clinic, operated by the Obstetrics and Gynecology department, offers free consultation ( Every Wednesday from 11 am to 12 noon) and specialized care for pregnancies that are considered high risk. The clinic focuses on the surveillance and management of pregnancies at risk due to various factors, including past obstetric outcomes, medical illnesses complicating pregnancy, and events occurring during the present pregnancy. Here are some key features of the clinic:

Comprehensive Risk Assessment: The clinic provides a detailed assessment of high-risk pregnancies, taking into account factors such as past obstetric outcomes (repeated abortions, stillbirths, neonatal deaths), medical illnesses (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, etc.), and events occurring during the present pregnancy (growth restriction, prematurity, bleeding, etc.). This assessment helps in identifying potential risks and developing appropriate management plans.

Genetic Counseling and Screening: High-risk pregnancies often require genetic counseling and screening. The clinic offers genetic counseling services to assess the risk of genetic disorders and provide guidance to expectant parents. Prenatal screening and diagnosis are available, including biochemical marker screening, chorion villus sampling, amniocentesis, fetal blood sampling, and advanced ultrasound for the detection of fetal anomalies. These services help in early detection and management of genetic conditions.

Fetal Surveillance: The clinic emphasizes extensive antepartum and intrapartum fetal surveillance. This involves close monitoring of the baby's well-being and growth through various techniques and tests. Advanced ultrasound technology and other monitoring methods are used to assess the fetal health and identify any potential issues that may require intervention.

Specialized Neonatal Care: The clinic works in collaboration with the division of Fetal Medicine, Genetics, and Neonatology to provide specialized neonatal care for high-risk pregnancies. This ensures that the newborns receive the necessary medical attention and support if they require specialized care due to prematurity, medical conditions, or other complications.
