Uro-Gynaecology Clinic at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital specializes in providing comprehensive care for women with urological problems, such as incontinence, prolapse, and pelvic floor disorders. Our team includes skilled urogynecologists, gynecologists with specialized training in pelvic floor issues, who are dedicated to managing and treating these conditions.
The pelvic floor refers to the complex network of muscles and supporting tissues that close the space at the bottom of the bony pelvis. This structure plays a crucial role in supporting the organs within the pelvis, including the rectum, vagina, neck of the uterus, and urethra. Due to anatomical factors and the changes that occur during childbirth, women are more prone to develop hernias and prolapses of the pelvic floor. These conditions can cause discomfort, interfere with daily activities, and impact bodily functions.
Traditionally, surgical procedures were performed to repair prolapses. However, it became evident that these repairs were not always long-lasting, especially as women's life expectancy increased. Additionally, women today have expanded responsibilities outside the home and seek a satisfying sexual life, leading to increased concern about pelvic damage caused by labor, delivery, and aging. In response, surgical techniques that are more respectful of bodily functions and less invasive have been developed. However, it is important to note that there is no surgery that can completely fix all pelvic floor problems forever without the possibility of creating new ones.
In some cases, surgery may not be the appropriate course of action, and physical therapy can be highly effective in addressing incontinence, sexual function deterioration, and pelvic pain. Even when surgery is necessary, long-term results are optimized by understanding body functions, improving muscle tone and coordination, and adopting a healthier lifestyle.
At our Uro-Gynaecology Clinic, we take a comprehensive approach to patient care. We prioritize understanding the problem in detail and working closely with the patient to develop an individualized treatment plan. Our approach may involve behavioral modifications, physical therapy, medications, or surgery as needed, tailored to meet the unique challenges of each case.
The diagnostic work-up may range from a detailed history and physical examination to laboratory tests, voiding diaries, and assessments of bladder emptying. For more complex cases, we offer urodynamic studies, cystoscopy, and ultrasound examinations in our office. Advanced imaging tests such as defecography, intravenous pyelography (IVP), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computed tomography (CT) scans are referred to specialized facilities as needed.
Our Uro-Gynaecology Clinic has been actively serving patients since April 2005, and we have successfully treated nearly 200 women to date. We have performed ten cases of TVT (tension-free vaginal tape) procedures for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence with excellent results.
