Dr. Ambarish Satwik was awarded the Gold Medal and the Vinayak Kirpekar Award for his Masters in Surgery from Shivaji University in Maharashtra in 2002. He held the position of Surgical Specialist in the Department of Surgery at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi till 2007 after which he joined Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the Department of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery.
Dr Satwik is often invited to speak at national and international vascular meetings, where he serves as invited faculty. Over time, he has also found himself drawn into conversations beyond medicine, occasionally contributing as a speaker or panelist at literature festivals and other public forums, and sometimes appearing on prime-time television to reflect on medical and cultural matters.
Dr. Satwik has a great deal experience in the surgical and endovascular management of a large spectrum of vascular disorders including aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, critical limb ischemia, varicose veins , vascular malformations and vascular access for hemodialysis. Apart from his busy schedule in the department, he also finds time for his literary pursuits. He is a columnist for various magazines and publications such as Outlook, India Today, Tehelka, Biblio and Time Out. He has written a novel called ‘Perineum: Nether Parts of the Empire’, a sexual history of the British Colonial Project which was published by Penguin in March 2007
