Dr. Sawhney completed his MBBS in 1980 and exhibited academic excellence during his academic years with five gold medals and Pfizer’s Gold Medal for Postgraduation in Medicine. Dr. JPS Sawhney is the senior consultant cardiologist, chairman of the Department of Cardiology, and a member of the Board of Management at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, India. He is also an ex-member of the Delhi Medical Council.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), American College of Cardiology (FACC), and European Society of Cardiology (FESC), and a member of the American Heart Association, European Society of Heart Failure, European Society of Preventive Cardiology, and European Atherosclerosis Society. He also chaired the Lipid Council of India, Cardiological Society of India.
His area of interest is clinical and preventive cardiology. He has done pioneering work in heart attacks in young Indians and familial hypercholesterolemia. He has been a pioneer in initiating global clinical trials and national and international registries, especially the Atrial Fibrillation, Heart Failure, and Acute Coronary Syndrome Registry. Along with being Principal Investigator and National Coordinator for global landmark trials, he has authored many articles in journals and chapters in books of national and international repute. His pioneering work also includes the promotion of group practice to improve patient care and to develop medical sub-specialities. He is actively involved in the Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Since college days, he has been an active player and enthusiast of cricket.
