Dr. Ashish Kumar is a Professor and Senior Consultant of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Institute of Liver, Gastroenterology & Pancreatico-Biliary Sciences, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. He completed his Gastroenterology training (DM) at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, in 2004, and subsequently trained for five years under the renowned Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin at G. B. Pant Hospital and the Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi.
He is a recipient of prestigious national and international fellowships, including those of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (FNAMS), the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh (FRCP), and the American College of Physicians (FACP), and has held visiting fellowships at the National Cancer Center, Tokyo, and the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Kumar serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology and has authored more than 250 scientific papers in leading journals such as Gastroenterology, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Gut.
With an h-index of 57, he has been named among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Elsevier and Stanford University every year from 2021 to 2025. He is the lead author of the Indian Guidelines on the Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma under the aegis of INASL. His clinical and research interests span fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, liver cancer, diabetes-related liver disease, portal hypertension, and liver failure — areas in which he continues to earn national and international recognition.
