He is an Honorary Fellow, American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and Fellow of American College of Surgeons. He is International Governing Board Member (Asia-Pacific), Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons of America.
He is a global pioneer inventor laparoscopic and Robotic GI surgeon with his techniques for Gallbladder & Hernia, becoming international practice guidelines. His technique of gallbladder and abdominal hernia surgery laparoscopically (Robotic) changed the global practices with enhanced patient safety and better clinical outcomes. These laparoscopic techniques are now followed globally having become foundation for international guidelines for safe laparoscopic surgeries. His technique for hernia has become the foundational principle for laparoscopic ventral hernia surgery, followed globally. He has performed world's first Natural Orifice Specimen Extraction (from vagina) with Robotic Pancreas Cancer Surgery (Whipple's). Laparoscopic surgery performed only in cavities like abdomen & thorax till he developed laparoscopic surgeries in areas like Breast & abdominal wall planes, thus opening new horizons for world to follow.
Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeon (SAGES), the top global body of laparoscopic & robotic surgeon, recognized his pioneering work and appointed him 'Ambassador of Laparoscopic surgery' in 2018 at Seattle, USA. He was first Indian invited to write the editorial of Topmost journal of SAGES, Surgical Endoscopy (Dec 2008 issue). He is the only Indian to have been awarded Honorary Fellowship by the apex body for one superspeciality of Gastrointestinal surgery in 2024 @ Baltimore, USA.
He has delivered invited faculty lectures globally and conducted “Clinical Grand Rounds” at Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Sydney and Ivy League affiliated medical colleges of USA (Montefiore Medical Center NY, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY and Columbia University USA). He has >100 scientific publications, >1000 international/national presentations & one of the highest citations (>1100) amongst his peer group.
National body, Association of Surgeons of India has awarded him as ‘Best Research Award’ (2014), “Best Innovations in Laparoscopic Surgery (2015) and “Outstanding surgeon-DSC” (2015).
