Dr. Rashmi Rana

Consultant
Department of Biotechnology and Research

Dr. Rashmi Rana is a distinguished researcher and academic at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, where she has been part of the Department of Biotechnology and Research since August 1, 2017. She is also an Associate Professor at GRIPMER and coordinates the MAHE PhD program and PG Diploma in Clinical Research. Dr. Rana holds a PhD and has postdoctoral training in Clinical Biochemistry and Biophysics with a focus on Multi-omics approaches.

Her research primarily focuses on oncology, particularly gliomas and brain tumors like meningioma’s. Dr. Rana's ground-breaking work includes identifying LGALS3BP as a non-invasive biomarker for monitoring glioma progression. She is currently developing innovative treatment strategies for gliomas, such as silencing LGALS3BP to inhibit tumor growth and using CRISPR gene editing to correct mutated genes. Additionally, she is exploring methods to cross the blood-brain barrier for targeted chemotherapy delivery, enhancing treatment efficacy while minimizing side effects.

Dr. Rana also applies her expertise in proteomics to infectious diseases like Dengue and Sepsis, focusing on their impact on kidney function, as well as investigating Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and graft rejection prediction. Dr. Rana’s contributions to science have earned her numerous prestigious awards, including the ESMO, HUPO, and EMBO fellowships, the Bill & Melinda Gates Fellowship in 2023, the HCFI Dr. K. K. Aggarwal Research Innovation Fund Award, the DST Young Scientist Award, the INYAS Fellowship, and member in organizations such as NAMS (Vector Borne Disease) and DNDi WHO, among others. Dr. Rana is selected for the EMBO Lab Leadership Program.

Dr. Rana is invited as speaker by the renowned organizations such as DRDO, DU, AIIMS, IITs etc. She is invited as a PhD examiner at Karolinska Institute, Sweden and KGMC Lucknow. She is the Convener of Proteomic Society of India. She is the member of the National and International societies. Dr. Rana is guiding 5 PhD students under her guidance.

Recently She established a Multi-Omics Core Facility in SGRH, Delhi.

Dr. Rana mentors a team of scientists, doctoral, and graduate students while leading five ongoing research projects. Her work continues to advance cancer research, Diagnostic and therapeutic innovations, and novel Multi-omics approaches. She is also an editor for several respected scientific journals, shaping the future of medical research.
