He currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Institute of Chest Surgery, where he is recognized for his expertise in complex thoracic cancer surgery, utilizing advanced minimally invasive, VATS, and robotic-assisted techniques.
Dr. Roman Dutta’s academic and clinical foundation is rooted in India’s most prestigious institutions. He completed his MS in General Surgery from PGIMER, Chandigarh, and underwent rigorous subspecialty training in thoracic and thoracic oncologic surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi. Expanding his expertise globally, he completed advanced training in robotic thoracic surgery at IRCAD–EITS in Strasbourg, France, and an observership at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA. His clinical practice is defined by a commitment to multimodality cancer care, seamlessly integrating surgical precision with evidence-based oncologic principles.
A leader in his field, Dr. Roman Dutta has spearheaded thoracic surgery and oncology services at several high-volume tertiary care centers. He has played a pivotal role in pioneering and advancing robotic and minimally invasive chest surgery across India. As an active academician and researcher, he has authored over 41 indexed publications, primarily focused on thoracic oncology, and has contributed extensively to textbook chapters. He remains dedicated to the next generation of surgeons, serving as a chief thesis guide for postgraduate surgical training.
