Dr. Varinder Singh Bedi

Chairperson
Vascular & Endovascular Surgery

I served in the Indian Navy for 30 years as a Surgeon and Vascular Surgeon at various hospitals of the Armed Forces, following which I joined Sir Ganga Ram Hospital as Chairman of the Department. I was decorated with the Nao Sena Medal for services during the Gujarat earthquake and the GOC-In-C Western Command Commendation Card for my work at Army Hospital R & R. I took premature retirement from Army Hospital R & R in December 2012 and joined Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where I have been since. I enhanced my skills in three vascular surgery centres across Germany: Katharinen Hospital, Stuttgart; University of Cologne; and Evangelical Krankenhaus, Mulheim.
I am the past President of the Vascular Society of India (2013-2015) and the past President of the World Federation of Vascular Societies (WFVS) (2015-2016). I have been bestowed with honorary corresponding membership of the German Vascular Society. I am a founder member of the Vascular Society of India. I delivered the Robert Rutherford Oration at the European Society of Vascular Surgery in Lyon, France, on 21st September 2017, on “Terror Trauma”. In addition to endovascular management of aortic aneurysms, I have one of the largest series of eversion/modified eversion endarterectomies for carotid artery stenosis in India.
I have been a teacher and examiner for vascular surgery for three decades. The IVES started the Endovascular Live Meeting, conducted annually, wherein live cases from multiple centres in India and overseas are transmitted. This is one of the largest Endovascular Live Meetings in the world.
