  • Aging Face: What factors contribute to facial aging?
Loading...

The process of facial aging represents a combination of gravitational effects, sun light damage and aging of the skin itself. Gravity affects all tissue layers resulting in brow ptosis, hollow infra orbital regions, nasolabial folds and submental skin excess. Aging of skin itself is manifested by fine wrinkles and irregular pigmentation. Sunlight is a major cause of skin changes with aging. Over time, the sun’s ultra violet (UV) light damages the fibres in skin. The breakdown of these fibres causes the skin to lose its ability to snap back after stretching, resulting in wrinkling. Cigarette smoking also plays a role in damaging skin fibres. Facial wrinkling increases with the amount of cigarettes and numbers of years a person has smoked.
