 Workshop on ‘Airway Management’

An airway workshop was organized on 3rd July jointly by the Department of Anaesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and the Airway Management Foundation (AMF) under the aegis of the Indian College of Anaesthesiologists (ICA) from 8 am till 5 pm.

The workshop was attended by 67 delegates from Delhi, NCR and Himachal Pradesh.  There were 18 instructors from Delhi, NCR and outside.

There was an introductory lecture about the Indian College of Anaesthesiologists, Airway Management Foundation by Dr. V P Kumra, President ICA, Dr. Jayashree Sood, CEO ICA and                     Dr. Rakesh Kumar, President AMF.

The proceedings commenced with a short talk by Dr. Bimla Sharma and Dr. Ashwin Marwaha about the airway gadgets and the equipment which would be there for the workshop.

There were 5 stations for the workshop

  • Station 1:    Supraglottic devices: Various LMAs, i-gel, Ambu Aura Gain
  • Station 2:    Video laryngoscopes: TruView, C-Mac, King Vision and Endoscope assissted intubation
  • Station 3:    Fibreoptic bronchoscopes: Bonfils and flexible fibrescope
  • Station 4:    Stylets, Bougies, Airway exchange catheters, DLTs and bronchial blockers
  • Station 5:    Surgical airway : cricothyroidotomy and percutaneous tracheostomy

At the respective stations the delegates were introduced to the equipment on display and the instructor gave a hands-on session to each postgraduate student giving individual attention and clearing the many doubts about choosing and operating the variety of airway equipment.

Following the workshop, there was a quiz contest organized by Dr Chand Sahai and Dr Pradeep Jain, for the postgraduate students, bringing the airway workshop to a close.
