A day of learning, reflection and compassion at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
On 5th October, the Department of Palliative Medicine marked World Hospice and Palliative Care Day with 125 participants coming together to reflect on what compassionate healthcare truly means.
The programme was honoured by the presence of Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman, Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Jayashree Sood, Vice Chairperson, Board of Management, who presided over the inauguration. We were also privileged to welcome Dr. Stanley C. Macaden, Bengaluru, Guest of Honour and a pioneer in palliative and home-based palliative care in India.
Through insightful academic discussions on ICU care, oncological treatment decisions and supporting families facing advanced illness, the programme highlighted the many dimensions of palliative care.
The deeply moving “Caregiver Expressions” session brought personal experiences to the forefront, while a powerful skit by MBBS students from Maulana Azad Medical College captured the essence of dignity and compassion in care. The programme also celebrated young voices through the national creative competition in poetry, storytelling and artwork.
A meaningful day that reaffirmed a simple yet profound principle: when treatment can no longer preserve life, care can always preserve dignity, comfort and humanity.
