Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is a multi-specialty state-of-the-art Hospital in India. It provides comprehensive Healthcare India services, and has acquired the status of a premier medical institution. Excelling in all medical and para medical professions proving a complete solution under one roof.

Looking at such excellence in all specialities, in 2000 SGRH established the first Cochlear Implant Program across North India. The project was taken up by the best surgeons in Cochlear Implant surgery along with the most experienced audiologist.

In order to provide the best services and outcomes to the patient SGRH believes in upgrading and educating their professionals. The Surgeons and Rehabilitation Audiologist attended Training Workshop organised by Cooperative Research Centre for Cochlear Implant & Hearing Aid Innovation and Bionic Ear Institute, Melbourne, Australia, 2001.

As the Cochlear Implant program grew and people were made aware, almost 50 Cochlear Implant surgeries were done by 2005, which was a huge number as those 50 children were now able to hear and were enrolled for rehabilitation program.

Early hearing detection and intervention program EHDI enables children with hearing loss to get early access to intervention services and the importance is felt worldwide as many studies stated that early Cochlear Implantation leads to better speech and language outcomes. Knowing the importance of this SGRH implanted youngest child at 8 months of age.

This was only possible because of the Universal New-born Hearing Screening Program initiated at SGRH which screens all baby born with hearing screening tests before discharge.

In 2010, looking at the work and international presence. Hospital had enrolled in research project on “Preservation of Residual Hearing with Cochlear Implants” at APSCI, Sydney. It does not only depend on successful cochlear implant surgery but SGRH also believes in giving importance to parent education and workshops, conducted 1st workshop for parent recipients as Asha Parent support group, after which many such workshops followed.

As per many research comparing outcomes of unilateral vs bilateral stimulation of auditory cortex it was need of the hour to understand its importance. Performed 1st simultaneous bilateral cochlear implantation of a child with one year of age. Completed a milestone of 400 Cochlear implant recipients till now.

Later it was established that Cochlear Implant would be beneficial in adult geriatric patients also, hence the oldest recipient gets Cochlear Implant at the age of 83 years, it was only possible as the hospital is equipped with best equipment and technologies with various other specialize professionals involved in surgery like cardiologist and anesthesiologist. Completed another milestone of implanting 30 children under the age of 1 year by 2015.

Many cultural events were organized during this time where recipients gave an outstanding performance, recipients receive prestigious award on their achievements. Many recipients are now pursuing MBA, IIT or have gone abroad for further studies. The hospital marks achievement of doing more than 1500 Cochlear Implants till now.
