Homoeopathy is an alternative method of treatment, based on Nature’s Law of
Cure, namely ‘Like Cures Like’. The truth of this law was discovered by a German
scientist Dr Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. Homoeopathy is a revolutionary,
natural medical science. It is a gentle and effective system of medicine. The
remedies are prepared from natural substances to precise standards and work by
stimulating the body’s own healing power.
It is more than a century and a half now that homoeopathy is being practised
in India. It has blended so well into the roots and traditions of the country that
it has been recognized as one of the national systems of medicine and plays an
important role in providing healthcare to a large number of people. Its strength
is evident in its effectiveness as it takes a holistic approach towards the sick
individual through the promotion of inner balance at mental, emotional, spiritual
and physical levels.
The concept of disease in homoeopathy is that disease is a total affection of
mind and body, the disturbance of the whole organism. Individual organs are
force, the vital energy of the body is the cause. Therefore, homoeopathy does not
believe in giving different medicines for different affl icted parts of the body but
rather gives one single constitutional remedy, which will cover the disturbance
of the whole person. Homoeopathy treats the patient as a whole and not just the
disease. Medical philosophy is coming more and more to the conclusion that
mere treatment of symptoms and organs can help only temporarily and that it is
the healing power of the body as a whole that has to be enhanced. Homoeopathy
believes in a holistic, totalistic and individualistic approach.
The Department of Homoeopathy at SGRH started functioning on 13 April
1996. It was the fi rst of its kind in a multispecialty hospital. It now runs private
and general OPDs between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday
and provides personal care for every individual patient in a unique manner.
Approximately 18,000 patients are being attended per year, directly as well
as referred by the other departments of the hospital. The department is playing
a prominent role and is a part of SGRH’s effort to provide a holistic system
of treatment along with other holistic special clinics. The department has been
successful in treating chronic cases and helps in the charitable treatment of the
poor, which is a part of the activities of SGRH.

for the treatment of complicated and unsolved cases
- The department has been running a special OPD for chronic cases on every
Friday, where the patients are seen by the faculty of the department.
